After years of waxing I developed lots of ingrown hairs on my lower legs. These manifested as red lumps and often became infected, they were unsightly and I became very self-conscious about wearing shorts or skirts because of how awful they looked. I tried all sorts of creams and lotions, alternated between shaving and waxing, and trying to grow them out but nothing worked and it fact many attempts to correct the situation made it even worse. I didn’t have a lot of body hair but after so much waxing the hairs had become weak and therefore could not penetrate the skin to grow normally. It was beginning to affect my confidence. A friend recommended IPL advising that the hair would be removed permanently, and therefore I would no longer have the hairs which were causing the ingrowns to happen. I was fairly sceptical about these claims but was desperate, so decided to give it a try. I was told that my hair and skin type were ideal for the treatment – fair skin and darker hair.
The results were astounding! After only one single treatment about 70 precent of the hairs on my legs disappeared. Within a week I began to notice a decrease in the redness on my legs, and after the second monthly treatment the lumps on my legs were significantly reduced. After the third month there were hardly any ingrown hairs and the Intense Pulsed Light treatments also assisted in reducing some of the scars caused by the infected sites. Now it is more than five years later and, after only 5 initial treatments when I first started, I have barely any leg hair left. I have not had an ingrown hair since and can happily wear summer clothes without the dreaded anxiety of having to cover up. It was the best decision I have ever made and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who is considering it. The very mild, momentary sting caused during the moments of treatment pales into insignificance when compared with the years of embarrassment, anxiety and annoyance caused by ingrown hairs. If you are contemplating this treatment, do not hesitate, it really will significantly improve your life!
