How old are you really?:Reversing the Ageing Process!

Whilst there is no way to beat the ageing process, we can slow it down considerably - and the methods are surprisingly simple.

Chronological age and biological age are different. Your true age is the biological age of your cells and tissue not the number of years you have been alive. The key factors determining your biological age include muscle mass/quality, fat mass/distribution, bone density, fluid distribution, blood pressure and the state of the cell membrane. Just because you don't have a disease doesn't mean that you are healthy and young. To gain a proper understanding of how to measure your biological age, it is necessary to undertake a Bio Impedance Analysis (BIA) and clinical assessment of the factors mentioned above.

The BIA testing device is a government approved scientific diagnostic machine accurate in providing objective feed back regularly on our current health status. It is an indicator of how well out body is functioning at a cellular level.

BIA or Cellular Health Analysis has been used by NASA to track the body composition changes of astronauts while traveling in space. Many elite athletes use this technology to assess the effectiveness of their training programmes.

Oxford Naturopathics provides many advanced, scientific treatments to address biological breakdown found when testing you with the BIA. These include genetic testing, cancer prevention nutrients, anti-ageing hormone treatments, skin treatments and cell detoxifiers.

There are also 10 things you can do at home to start slowing the ageing process

1 Sunlight -Expose your body to the sun for around 30 mins daily (early morning / late afternoon). This is essential for immune and other chemicals to be produced.
2 Drink only pure water. Tap water is poison! At least 12 different chemicals have been found in our water supply.
3 Work on your love life - Research has proven that we live longer, healthier and happier lives when we are in a good marriage. This fosters good communication, emotional security, companionship, intimacy, contentment and direction.
4 Eat fresh foods. Limit foods packaged in tins, packets, boxes or take-aways.
5 Get fit again - "use it or lose it" - concentrate on aerobics, swimming, jogging, skipping, walking, thi chi, yoga, palates, weights and stretching.
6 De-stress - do something every night to relax the body/mind. Baths, meditation, music, massages, prayer, deep breathing, journals.
7 Take a Professionally prescribed multi-nutrient. Don't be fooled into believing that in today's busy/toxic lifestyle you are able to eat a balanced diet everyday.
8 Sleep well. Our bodies repair themselves while sleeping.
9 Stay in touch with younger friends - feed off their energy and enthusiasm.
10 Read books on longevity (Deepak Copra's Ageless Body Timeless Mind) where scientists discuss ageing as a choice we make not a physiological inevitability.

The BIA can also tell you if the exercise you are doing is effectively building lean muscle mass - which is just as important as burning fat. Lean muscle mass increases Human Growth Hormone (HgH), one of the essential hormones responsible for anti-ageing. You don't need to buy this hormone illegally (as some athletes have lately), just increase your muscle mass. Find out now if your exercise is effective for you.

The Philosophy Diet :with Miriam Young!

Today, more than ever we have infinite choice as to what food we put into our bodies than at any other time in history. Every woman's magazine that you pick up has the latest diet that this or that superstar is on, current affairs programmes review them and the self-help sections in bookstores on diet and nutrition are growing every week. For many people this means overwhelm and confusion!

If the author promotes the 'Zone Diet' as 'the way' to eat, then the vegetarians and every one who has ever experienced constipation from such low carbohydrate diets, will be unhappy. The zone diet can lead to rapid weight loss, however most habitual dieters will know that rapid weight loss can often be swiftly followed by rapid weight gain! And the restrictions on this diet can involve cutting out some valuable vitamins and minerals, not be mention being very time consuming to organise.

If the author promotes the raw, sprouted, vegan type diet as 'the way' to eat then the Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner will not be impressed at such a "yin and depleting" style diet, preferring one that is full of cooked and warming foods. If the author promotes the very recent 'Blood Type Diet' as 'the way' of eating then this so called "one size fits all" approach will hold total disregard to the Ayurvedic (Indian) approach, which holds over 3000 years of wisdom in treating individual health issues and unique constitution of a person. No wonder we are confused! And I have seen so many frustrated individuals over the years, particularly women, when it comes to what they "should" or "should not" be eating.

There can even be problems with people eating large amounts of fish in their diet. One of my male clients has been semi-vegetarian all of his life, eating a can of tuna every day for fifteen years. His symptoms included insomnia, fatigue, depression and mood swings. Through hair tissue analysis I found that his mercury levels had become dangerously high. An important point considering the growing publicity in relation to healthy oils contained in deep-sea fish. "Everything in moderation" is an old fashioned saying that perhaps contains more wisdom than we give it credit for.

There is no right or wrong way of eating. There is no one way of eating that is right for every person at every time. What is important is that you listen to your own body and how it responds to certain foods when eaten.

Allergies
If you have allergies to certain foods such as soy, eggs, dairy products, salicylates, wheat or all gluten etc it is important to stay off what you are allergic to whilst considering a new diet. The advantages for many people who have allergies or intolerances to particular foods is that they have looked at dietary options in detail and have developed a well-balanced healthy lifestyle, which suits their own unique individual needs. They have had to change their diet by force and now reap the benefits of their own adapted healthy eating programme.

If you have developed an allergy later in life, this does not mean you will always have that allergy. Sometimes an extended break from a certain protein or molecule in food is all that is needed. One of my clients developed an allergy to wheat, avoided all wheat for five years, undertook some of my detoxification programmes and now owns a bakery! She is now able to indulge in the odd croissants or cookie as a treat every now and again, with no allergic reaction. Liver detoxification is particularly useful in the treatment of allergies, as it is the liver that processes everything that we put into our mouths. Children often grow out of allergies. Patience and perseverance is frequently what is required.

Treats
So long as you are not on a detox programme or anti-candida diet etc, treats are ok. We are here to enjoy life. Chocolate is ok (especially a particular Swiss brand). Red wine is fine in moderation. (Look for the preservative free/organic brands, as it is often the preservatives that give you the hangover). If a person is unable to control themselves, and gorges and binges, then I will usually recommend that they don't keep treats, chocolate or otherwise at home. Treats can then be left for going out and on special occasions. It makes going out more exciting! This is a particularly useful tool for children. If treats are not in the house, then they cannot bug you for them!

What should I eat in my Day-To-Day Life?
Most people benefit from a diet free of red meat, sugar, caffeine, and junk food and food that is processed and contain preservatives. I am shocked that aspartame (an artificial sweetener) is still used in food products in Australia. (The substance is banned in Japan as researchers found it to be a cancer-causing agent). Get used to reading ingredient labels in supermarkets. You will be amazed at just how much sugar, common salt and preservatives, food manufacturers add to processed foods. The recommended diet for the average person is made up of whole, unprocessed natural foods, such as fresh fruit and vegetables (organic where possible), sprouted seeds, legumes, grains, and nuts (avoid peanuts) that are easily digested, especially when soaked over night in purified water. This keeps the body vital and healthy, and the mind calm and free from restless thoughts.

Whether or not your body can tolerate diary products, soy, eggs, wheat products, a high or low carbohydrate diet, dried fruits, bananas or various different meats etc needs to be an individual discovery. You may have more energy throughout the day by eating protein for breakfast, or you may feel less sluggish throughout the day by eating fruit for breakfast - this depends on your constitution, state of health, exercise habits, blood sugar levels and individual metabolism. If you stop eating carbohydrates after 3.00pm, you may find it easier to lose weight. If you are slim and have a fast metabolism, you may need to eat carbohydrates and protein all day every day! Start experimenting. Eat butter, rather than margarine, as it is a real food from cows! Most margarine is a synthetic 'food' containing trans-fatty acids that clog the liver and cause disease. Juicing can be an excellent way to start the day, as it floods the cells with essential vitamins, minerals and 'life force'. Begin your day with two glasses of plain purified water.

A well-balanced vegetarian diet is probably one of the healthiest diets in the world. However, some women need to eat red meat or chicken once in a while otherwise they report feeling flat, depressed and lethargic. Pregnant women can sometimes need to eat red meat, if no other food or supplement will increase their iron stores. If this is the case then make sure the meat is organic (hormones and anti-biotics just aren't worth ingesting). Eat a kiwi fruit or mandarin before hand, as the vitamin C content will help you to absorb the iron content more readily.

If you have a tendency to low blood sugar levels, eat smaller meals more often. Having a handy supply of almonds, cashews and brazil nuts (soaked overnight) can greatly assist in getting you through the day. Sea salt, grey in colour (containing a whole complexity of minerals) should be the only salt consumed in moderation, especially in countries with long hot climates like Australia. Consume more raw foods in summer (salads/sprouts etc) and more cooked foods in winter (steamed and roasted vegetables, soups and tofu etc). Our vital energy, mental capabilities, and emotional health are all influenced by the food that we eat.

Meditation Made Easy:it's easier than you think!

The benefits of meditation on the mind and body have been known for thousands of years and have recently been validated in scientific studies. Unfortunately, many people find it difficult to meditate and give up without receiving these benefits. This problem has now been solved with the release of a powerful audio technology called Holosync that sends a very specific stimulus to the brain and creates states of deep meditation, quickly and easily.

Stimulating the brain with Holosync releases stress-reducing chemicals that are highly pleasurable. Most people go easily into a deep, trance-like meditative state normally only attained by experienced monks who have been meditating for over 20 years. In fact, EEG studies show the brain patterns experienced are actually deeper than those attained by monks.

As new neural pathways connect and synchronise the two sides of the brain, individuals develop what scientists call "whole brain functioning," which improves learning, intuition, mental clarity, creativity, concentration, and intelligence, as well as amazing quantum leaps in insight and self-awareness.

New research also reveals that even short-term exposure to Holosync creates significant increases in DHEA which is a precursor, or source ingredient, to virtually every hormone your body needs and is a buffer against stress-related hormones . It is a key determinant of physiological age. When DHEA levels are high, the body is at its peak - vibrant, healthy, and able to combat disease effectively.

Holosync also increases your ability to deal with stress and releases emotions such as anger, fear, sadness and anxiety. When Holosync is used regularly over time, many people discover that dysfunctional feelings and behaviours fall away - even those that have stubbornly resisted change in the past.

For a Good Cause: Why support The Smith Family Winter Appeal 2006?

Together, we can give disadvantaged children the opportunities most of us take for granted Every child should have the opportunity to create their own future… to fully utilise their potential… to be the best they can be. But sadly, children like Amanda are often denied that opportunity. Education is the key to unlocking life's possibilities. Yet one in seven children in Australia today, is part of a financially disadvantaged family and doesn't have equal access to education. Nor to the opportunities it offers. If we stand by and do nothing, these children will become tomorrow's disadvantaged adults. Your support of The Smith Family is really an investment in Australia's children. It will enable us to expand our evidence-based programs that focus on education as the best way to prevent a lifetime of disadvantage.
