Food for fertility: Beneficial Foods

with Sharon Noble ND

The World heath organisation recognises that the fertility levels of both male and female are on the down turn. They suggest in a recent study that there are many factors that effect fertility.

Such as : Environmental stresses , pollution, more frequent use of electrical and radiation energies. Increased use of drugs, Diet and life styles.

This article will look at the beneficial foods for fertility. Foods that help to support fertility are ones that are high in nutrients and low in saturated fats , preservatives, flavourings and colour as well as sugar. A diet designed for fertility should include high intake of protein, vegetables and nuts. Low in simple carbohydrates and processed food, deep-fries and food with high content of sugar or acid.

Below are examples of some Foods for fertility.

Broccoli - high in folate helps to reduce homocystine level which is linked to miscarriage Folate also helps to reduce the chance of having babies with spinabifidus, improve libido and help with energy levels. Other green leafy vegetables such as snow peas, beans, spinach, kale and zucchini are also high in micronutrients essential for good cells formation as well as providing relief from oxidative stress in the body.

Proteins - such as Fish at least 4 times a week. Try to avoid sword fish and large pieces of tuna as these are supposedly high in mercury. Other protein sources such as Red meat and chicken (preferably organic as many stock animals are treated with antibiotics, growth hormones etc that leave residues in their fat) are also beneficial.

Iron- essential for haemoglobin synthesis thus energy levels and a low iron level can cause fatigue, poor immunity, cold sensitivities, digestive disturbances and dizziness. Iron comes in the form of two key types heme iron(blood products) red meat or non heme iron ) non blood products - vegetables. A combination of both is best. Note that too much iron is a bad as not enough and can cause damage to many organs. Iron supplement should only be taken under supervision of a practitioner processing medical and nutritional qualifications.

Zinc one of the most important nutrients in fertility as it helps with both the development of the ova(egg) and sperm also essential for good brain function, DNA and RNA synthesis and immune function. This is usually one of the most misrepresented nutrients. It is easily antagonised thus effecting absorption. It is best taken on it's own last thing at night in a liquid form. ALWAYS get a zinc check before taking Zinc as toxicity can cause side effects and hide other nutrient deficiencies. A great source of Zinc is Almonds and sunflower seeds. The zinc in most multivitamins is usually not readily absorbed or is antagonised out by other nutrients.

There are many more nutrients and dietary requirements that can improve your chances of conception. To contact Sharon Noble ND at Personal Transitions Natural Therapy Clinic call 38510788 or click here for more information

Remedies for your joints

The medieval German herbalist Hildegard of Bingen wrote, ‘Whoever is plagued by arthritis should powder celery seeds because this is the best remedy’. Hildegard knew what she was talking about, as it is now confirmed that celery seed has a range of actions that are beneficial in arthritic states, the major one of these being that it is a mild diuretic and digestive tonic. Supporting digestion is important in arthritic states, as a deficient digestion that leads to inadequate elimination of toxins from the body can contribute to the condition. The diuretic action of celery increases the elimination of uric acid through the kidneys, which makes it useful in all rheumatic conditions, particularly gout

While herbs have been around for hundreds of years as arthritis relief, a new natural substance has been gaining much popularity in treating the condition. Glucosamine is manufactured by the body and is a simple molecule composed of glucose and an amine (nitrogen and hydrogen). The effect of glucosamine on joints is to stimulate the manufacture of glycosaminoglycans, which are key structural components of cartilage. This cartilage is intimately involved in the strength and integrity of joints.

Laughter is the best medicine!

Phone Line

A young businessman had just started his own firm. He had just rented a beautiful office and had it furnished with antiques. He saw a man come into the outer office. Wishing to appear the hot shot, the businessman picked up the phone and started to pretend he had a big deal working. He threw huge figures around and made giant commitments. Finally he hung up and asked the visitor, ''Can I help you?'' ''Yeah, I've come to activate your phone lines.''
