Addressing Fatigue: By Sophie Mayor from VIVE Health!

Fatigue and low energy levels are two of the most prominent side effects of our modern day lifestyle. Causes vary from the more simple such as poor sleep quality (or lack of sleep) and inadequate nutrient intake to the more complex underlying issues such as sluggish thyroid function or adrenal fatigue. Examining your nutrient intake is certainly the first area to consider when looking to improve energy levels - nutrients such as amino acids found in protein as well as B vitamins are essential to the production of energy within the body. If you find that your fatigue is coupled with muscle tension and moodiness it may be beneficial to supplement with Magnesium as well. It is important during times of physical, mental or emotional stress to provide nutrients which support the adrenal and thyroid glands. These endocrine (hormone producing) glands are essential for regulating metabolism, producing energy and assisting the body to deal with stressors. Kelp, Spirulina, Liquorice & Rhodiola as well as Iodine, Vitamin C and Tyrosine will all support these organs to function optimally. One of the most amazing attributes of herbal medicine are the herbs that are able to tonify the body; assisting the body to rejuvenate and refresh so that you can bounce out of bed once again! The Ginsengs - Siberian Ginseng, Korean Ginseng & Withania are all specific for their ability to do just that!

Some simple ideas to improve energy levels:

1. Regular, small meals throughout the day: blood sugar levels are strongly linked with energy levels. Eating a breakfast high in protein kick starts the metabolism for the day; following with regular protein snacks throughout the day ensures that blood sugar levels remain balanced. This is important to prevent blood sugar levels dropping as this usually leads to brain fog, fatigue & poor food choices - many people begin to crave sugar once their blood sugar levels are low.

2. Healthy fats & protein at every meal: as well as ensuring regular meals it is important to have protein such as eggs, leans meats, nuts, protein powder (e.g. pea protein or whey protein isolate) or beans to slow the uptake of sugar into the blood stream. This essentially reduces the glycaemic index (GI) of the meal resulting in balanced, long-lasting energy instead of a 'sugar high' followed by a slump.

3. Adequate B group Vitamins. The B group Vitamins are imperative for the production of energy; interestingly our requirements for B vitamins increase during times of stress, reduced sleep or if the diet is poor. It is essential to regularly 'top up' Vitamin B due to their water soluble nature (meaning B vitamins are generally cleared from the body within 4-6 hours).

4. Test for mineral deficiencies. Iron deficiency is a common cause of low energy levels & is particularly prevalent in females. Iron is important for not only energy production but also the transport of oxygen around the body; shortness of breath, pale skin & light-headedness can be symptoms of low iron levels however a blood test is an accurate way to diagnose Anaemia.

5. Swap coffee or black tea for green tea. Green tea is great to boost energy levels, balance blood sugar levels, aid concentration and is a potent antioxidant. Drinking 2-3 cups per day or supplementing with green tea will improve energy & productivity but also acts as an 'anti-aging nutrient' for the whole body.

Preserving Your Youth: with Microcurrent Facials.

Internal and External Components of Skin

In my line of work, I am constantly surprised at the lengths that women will go to get 'younger' looking skin. Of course, the key to preserving your youth is a healthy eating and exercising combined with a gentle, simple skin washing routine. The problem is, for this to be effective it needs to start from when you are young, and don't yet have any visible signs of ageing. As you can imagine, this is very difficult for most people. Usually it takes something staring us right in the face to motivate us to take action. And unfortunately for many women looking in the mirror, their aged skin is doing just that.

As a health care Practitioner I have been witness to nearly all types of anti-ageing 'solutions'. Most of them sound too good to be true. As I always say to my patients, this is usually because they are. Visible signs of ageing are due to degradation of your facial skin's cells. Basically, your cellular function is influenced by what you eat, how much you exercise, and what you expose your skin too (chemicals, UV etc). Unless you maintain a healthy lifestyle, generally as you age, your cells will too.

It is this very crucial understanding of cellular function that has led me to offer my patients Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) Therapy. A painless and non-invasive treatment, it repairs at a cellular level. Using frequencies that are specific to a patient's condition, cellular function is enhanced and returned to its original status. A very low-voltage microamperage (millionths of an ampere) current is passed onto the affected cells or tissue trigger points in order to stimulate and accelerate the body's natural healing process.

Given its electrotherapy ability to target damaged cells specifically, Microcurrent Therapy is very flexible. I use it on patients with muscle pain, injuries, colds, immunes and more. However I probably see the most tangible results when using it on my skin care patients. When on a facial skin care frequency, treatments effectively 're-educate muscles' helping overly-tightened muscles to relax, and under worked muscles to regain their original strength. The visible results are quite dramatic. The face is lifted, firmed and toned back to a much more youthful appearance. At the same time, the Microcurrents improve circulation to your face which stimulates the production of collagen, improves tone and texture, and eliminates fine lines.

Above anything else, I promote looking after yourself with healthy eating and exercise. However, for those who require a little bit of outside help, there are options available. Call the clinic today on (07) 3299 4264 to

The Heart Versus The Mind: by Trevor Gollagher.

Realisations in the vege garden

Have you ever wondered what causes the body to get stressed? No, it is not the person in your office that's a pain in the neck causing it.

Have you ever been aware of the mind when you are stressed?

What normally happens within the body when you start getting uptight?

Well one day I got myself into a tizz about all the things I had to do and was at boiling point. I was sitting at my computer and just couldn't take it anymore. The energy of the computer was pulling me into a resonant match with it and causing more negative stress. I pushed my chair back and said enough is enough! So I stood up and went outside and walked around in my vegetable garden to settle down.

After a while, when my mind started to quieten, a light went on inside me. I realised that all the busyness in my mind turned up the volume of the negative stresses. My mind was jumping from one thought to another and just getting tenser with unresolved questions and issues. Turning my minds energy up would be fine if it was full of happy things. But my mind was cluttered with anxieties and frustrations about not getting things done.

So what was I doing?

Well, by focussing so much energy in the brain, I increased its frequency and turned it into the dominating energy in my body. This concentrated and intense energy was one of disharmony. So because of the law of entrainment, my whole body had to come into line with its frequency. This meant I turned into a walking blob of tense, stressed energy. Not only was I not coping in the head, but now my whole body started to react in a negative way.
My energy level dropped, I lost my ability to be productive and I felt heavy and burdened. Every part of me suffered as a result.

In this state, it is impossible to get a resolution to anything. So things just keep tumbling away into chaos. Meanwhile back in the garden, I think it was just as I walked past my cabbage patch that another thought popped into my head.

Every negative experience I have ever had has started first as thoughts in my mind. All positive things I have experienced always had an attached loving energy radiating out of my heart. The positives seemed to start in my body, and the negatives in my head.

Think about this.

Every time something doesn't go right, or you feel tense or agitated in anyway, the mind seems to get tense as well, doesn't it?

It seems to be part and parcel of the experience. The two go hand in hand.

When you find yourself experiencing joy or happiness the mind becomes less active. It seems that these experiences come more from the body.

Well about now I was passing the bean trellis in my vege garden and my realisations were going through the roof. I realised the mind was a place of delusion and unrest and the heart was a place of truth and happiness.

If the cause of stress and burden was the result of the over-activity of the mind, then all I had to do was calm it. I figured by bringing my focus onto another part of me and out of the mind, it should disrupt the building momentum of mind energy. Therefore, the mind would naturally calm and so should the rest of me.

I sat down next to a chilli bush and pondered the best place within my body to fix my focus. Bingo! Of course, the heart is the centre of truth and is said to be the place of Unconditional Love. What better place could there be?

If by focussing intensely on the head pulls my whole body into its energy, then it should be the same for the heart. If I could turn the volume up of my heart energy, then through the law of entrainment my whole body should vibrate at its frequency.

Through past experience, I have found that touching and breathing into the area I want to focus on, helped to strengthen the focus. So here I was sitting cross legged like a Buddha under my chilli bush. My hands on my heart, while at the same time visualising breathing into it.

If only the neighbours were watching, they would think I am crazier then they initially thought. But then again, they might think I was having a heart attack. Just look at the picture, Sitting on the ground in my vege patch holding my heart with a vague look on my face. Thankfully there were no sirens of an ambulance screaming down the road.

Okay back to the chilli bush. I have since called this focussing and breathing technique Heart Breathing. Heart Breathing can disengage a stressed mind in an instant. By breathing into the heart whilst focussing there, you turn up the volume of heart energy. Because of this, the loving characteristics of the heart start entraining your whole body.

So put this book down now and bring your focus on to your physical heart. Slowly breathe in with the intent it is going into the heart. Take about 10 breaths in this way and see how you feel. When you finish come back and continue reading.

Welcome back

What you are now experiencing is an energy shift from the head energy to the heart energy. Feels good huh?

Science has proven that the heart radiates an electromagnetic field of approx. 4 metres, while the brain radiates a field of approx. 1.4 metres. No! That was not 14 metres for the brain it was one point four. It's quite amazing to think that the heart is more powerful then the brain. It is also recognised that the heart can think and in fact holds a very high consciousness. This consciousness is directly connected to universal truth and love.

The mind, on the other hand, holds the reality of its moulded perceptions. These perceptions come from our life's conditioning, which I am sorry to say are all based on fear and delusion.

Let me put this to you. If you had a choice of having your life run on fear and delusion or truth and love, which would you choose?

You see your heart energy is very capable of running the whole show with love. It always makes the right choices; it energises you and continually supports health and happiness. That is of course, if you allow it to function and take control. But because we all tend to think too much, we increase the energy of the brain and then it entrains the heart to take a less dominant role. The brain becomes the boss.

Because of its conditioning, the brain just struggles along getting in the way of itself, creating friction and stress. The results of this are all around you. Just look at everyone in your life, you won't have to look too far to see what I mean.

The heart is more powerful then the brain. The mere fact it has a bigger electromagnetic field than the brain tells us this. So it does not take a lot to make it the boss. Just by doing Heart Breathing you turn up its volume. In a very short time it entrains the brain. When the heart is in charge, everything becomes more positive and more accurate decisions and choices are made. You get in the flow of universal truth and abundant joy becomes your normal state.

Short and Sweet:Mushroom and Mozzarella Lasagne!

Serves 4-6

1 medium eggplant
table salt
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
2 teaspoons oregano leaves, roughly chopped
sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 red capsicums
2 yellow capsicums
8 large field mushrooms, sliced thickly
200g mozzarella cheese, sliced
50g parmesan, grated
olive oil for greasing and drizzling

1. Preheat the oven to 180ºC. Cut the eggplant in half lengthwise, sprinkle the flesh with table salt and leave for 10 minutes. Wash off the salt, pat dry with paper towel and brush the flesh with half the oil. Place cut-side down on a baking tray and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until soft. Remove.

2. When cool, peel off the skin and discard. Using a hand-held blender or food processor, roughly puree the flesh. Stir through the oregano and season to taste. Cut the capsicums into pieces as large and flat as possible, removing the membrane and seeds. Place skin-side up under a hot griller until they blacken and blister. Transfer to a bowl, cover with cling-film and leave for 10 minutes. Remove the skin and set aside the flesh.

3. Cook the mushrooms in a litle water over high heat until just tender. Season to taste. Cook the lasagne in a large pot of boiling salted water until just tender. Plunge into cold water and separate the sheets.

4. Cover the base of a lightly oiled baking dish with lasagne sheets. Spread with half the eggplant puree, top with a layer of capsicum pieces, then mozzarella, then mushrooms. Cover with more lasagne sheets and repeat the process, finishing with a layer of lasagne. Sprinkle with parmesan, salt and pepper. Drizzle with oil, cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes, or until heated through.

Laughter is the best medicine!

A pirate walked into a bar and the bartender said, "Hey, I haven't seen you in a while. What happened? You look terrible."

"What do you mean?" said the pirate, "I feel fine."

"What about the wooden leg? You didn't have that before."

"Well, we were in a battle and I got hit with a cannon ball, but I'm fine now."

"Well, ok, but what about that hook? "What happened to your hand?"

"We were in another battle. I boarded a ship and got into a sword fight. My hand was cut off. I got fitted with a hook. I'm fine, really."

"What about that eye patch?"

"Oh, one day we were at sea and a flock of birds flew over. I looked up and one of them pooed in my eye."

"You're kidding," said the bartender, "you couldn't lose an eye just from some bird poo."

"It was my first day with the hook."
