Suffering From Allergies? Find Out How To Cure It:By TIna White From Brisbane Livewell Clinic!

Suffering from Allergies? Find out how to cure it!!!

It seems everyone has an allergy to something and some to everything!

Modern man's catch phrase has become 'make mine gluten free.'

So lets take a Close look at this modern phenomenon, what exactly it is and a few vital things you can do to combat it.

Okay, an allergy is an abnormally heightened sensitivity to a substance (allergen) that is brought into contact with the body either by ingestion in the intestine, the lungs or absorption through the skin.

There are such an incredible number of allergens that they are almost unlimited, and in some people allergic reactions occur continuously.

An allergic response can cause; reddening and swelling of the skin, this occurs when a protein comes into contact with a highly sensitive hormone called kinin, which responds by tearing down the walls of a mast cell to release substances like; histamine, serotonin and heparin.

Histamine creates reactions such as - fatigue, watery eyes, blocked nose, painful rashes, swellings, skin itch, chronic cough etc.

The inflammation that mast cells cause can be particularly harmful if it happens around the nerves. Kinin inflammation can even affect the brain, leading to headaches, migraine, nausea, lethargy, schizophrenia and in extreme cases anaphylactic shock.

We therefore need to attack the cause of allergies at their roots by: " improving digestion
" balancing the immune system
" limiting free radical damage

ALLERGIES - DIGESTION

Proteins which is not properly digested can enter the bloodstream via the small intestines, once this happens ,the circulatory system is so efficient that the offending proteins from the intestines will soon come into contact with the kinins, reacting almost anywhere in the body and the intestinal wall itself often responds by secreting an extra layer of mucus to protect itself, often leading to diarrhea.

In order to prevent protein seepage into the blood, you need to improve digestion by raising your stomach acid levels with individualized digestive enzymes.

ALLERGIES - IMMUNE SYSTEM

Immune response is orchestrated by the thymus gland, which guards against infectious agents by secreting a hormone, which activates the body's immune response in the form of antibodies.

If the allergen is a toxin " the antibody neutralizes it

If the allergen is a bacteria " the antibody coats it like a second skin, insulating it from the threatened tissue

If the allergen is a virus " the antibody blocks the attachment points between it and the cell it is trying to infect

Antibodies are selective, but not quite exclusive about what they attack, so it is necessary for the immune system to protect itself against itself, as an imbalance, can trigger an over reactive immune response.

Another branch of the immune system is the T-cells, which have various roles to play, for example - one may cause you to develop a rash, while another will suppress this immune response, which is why if the number of helpers constantly outweighs the suppressors, your immune system will become oversensitive and allergic reactions will start occurring.

One of the most effective forms of allergy relief is supplementing with the amino acid histidine. Not only does histidine stimulates stomach acid secretion, it also regulates the ratio of T-helper cells to T-suppressor cells. It is histamine, which is a central component of the allergy response - that causes the flushing and inflammation; histadine's suppressor balancing effect actively prevents this allergic response from occurring.

ALLERGY - FREE RADICALS

Free radicals are among the greatest threats to human health. Heavy metals in the air or your food, leads to the creation of free radicals, as does radiation, ultraviolet light any sort of illness or injury to tissue.

A free radical's only goal is to find another electron to balance its atomic charge, and It will stop at nothing to get it, Plundering the protein structures of your body in its search, it oxidizes cells, causing inflammation, injury and destruction, raising toxicity levels and placing the immune system under greater stress.

Free radicals oxidize the cell walls fatty membrane, making it just like rancid butter and is one of the major causes of immune response imbalance.

This can lead not only to common food allergies and sensitivities, but also to autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, thyroid disease , male and female infertility.

We need to protect our bodies from free radical damage by taking powerful antioxidants.

In focusing on allergies, as one of today's major health problems, Rather than suppress these allergic responses, consider using amino acids and co-factors, to protect the cells from free radicals damage. Also we need to consider a wide range of related issues in the Individual's biochemistry, which impact upon one another. An individual approach to assessing the causative factors is extremely necessary and may be the most effective way to yield the best result.

Remember all supplements should only be taken under supervision from a very experienced qualified professional.

Osteopathy and Headaches: By Anna Folino from The West End Osteopathic Clinic!

Headaches are one of the most common medical complaints - up to 85% of the population will have experienced a headache within the last year .

There are a wide variety of headache causes and contributory factors, including fatigue, alcohol, stress, eyestrain, ear or tooth problems, dehydration, and head injury. Headache may also originate from structures in the neck - this is known as a 'cervicogenic headache', and is a condition which can be treated by an Osteopath.

COMMON TYPES OF HEADACHE

Cervicogenic Headache
Refers to any headache originating from bones or soft tissues in the neck
15-20% of chronic headaches may involve a dysfunction in the neck
These headaches normally start in the back of the neck and may spread to the front of the head and around the eye
The headache is felt as a dull ache, and may be aggravated by neck movements, sustained or awkward neck postures, or applying pressure around the base of the skull

Migraine Headache

Commonly associated with symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light, noise or sound
Felt as a throbbing headache, more so on one side of the head
May be triggered by factors such as food, alcohol, stress, bright lights or certain smells

Tension Headache
Arise from the body's response to stress, anxiety, fatigue, poor posture and emotions. The response is tightening of the muscles of the head and face
Feels like a 'squeezing' or 'band-like' pain or pressure around the head
The muscles around the head, neck and shoulders may feel tight and uncomfortable

HOW CAN OSTEOPATHY HELP?

Osteopathy is a form of complementary medicine which uses hands-on techniques to diagnose and treat a variety of health conditions. Osteopaths are government-registered practitioners who undergo a minimum of five years of tertiary training. Osteopaths believe that the body functions at its best when it is free of restrictions in movement. Treatment focuses on the musculoskeletal system to maintain and maximize movement throughout the whole body.

A typical consultation will begin with your osteopath asking you questions about your headache. They will then perform a thorough physical examination in order to form a diagnosis and determine the most appropriate course of action. This may include specific tests to help differentiate your headache from that of a more serious cause. If an osteopath believes that your headache may be a result of a more serious cause, such as a stroke, brain tumour or meningitis, they will refer you on appropriately.

Your osteopath will look for any changes or restrictions in the body's structure which may lead to dysfunction. They will assess your posture, look at the movement of your neck and feel for areas of muscle tension, as well as looking for restrictions elsewhere in the body which may be contributing.

Treatment is aimed at removing the body of any restrictions to normal motion, improving movement of the joints, reducing muscle tension, increasing blood supply and reducing nerve irritation. A variety of techniques may be used, including soft tissue massage, stretching, rhythmic joint movements and manipulation. In addition they may provide advice on how to manage your headaches at home, including improving your posture, performing stretches or exercises, or maintaining a more comfortable work station. Although there is no guarantee that your headaches will disappear completely, Osteopathic treatment may help to reduce the duration, severity or frequency of your symptoms.

Anna Folino is one of six osteopaths working at the West End Osteopathic Clinic. Anna has a particular interest in the treatment of headaches, having suffered headaches for many years in the past. The Integrity Factor: by Jenni Madison!

As we learn and process knowledge, it is not enough for us to take just an intellectual view or theoretical perspective, not if we intend to create real change in our lives and in the lives of others. To create lasting change we must integrate. It has been said so well in the simple and infamous quote from Ghandi "we must be the change we want to see in the world". It is the process of integration that then brings our talk into our walk, and as our knowledge becomes our action, it then transforms itself into our wisdom and our experience.

"What we think becomes what we say, what we say becomes what we do, what we do becomes our habits, and our habits then become our character."

The Integrity factor; o Tell the truth and people will respect you. o Do as you say you will do and people will trust you. o Be kind and understanding and people will like you.

The factors that deter you from trusting yourself, and your own innate knowing are your habits, conditioning and attachment to external influences. These are the clouds that build up in your mind. They begin with your unconscious and conscious thinking, filtering reality through the windows and doors of your consciousness. Consciousness includes the sum total of your beliefs, attitudes, self regard, passions, nature, emotions, coping mechanisms, values and personality. It is all that you are, your mind, body and spirit. As it is energy that creates transformation, all real and lasting change must occur for us at our levels of consciousness.

As leaders, parents, business owners and communicators we have a responsibility to ourselves and to others to be conscious of the influence and impact we have on our children, the environment and the people around us. Intent is powerful, conscious intent coming from a soulful place is the essence of contribution.

A wonderful gift to give to yourself and others is your own wisdom and personal empowerment, to accept and embody that which resonates from within you as your own truth. You may hear it from another, read it in a book or receive it as an insight or intuition, its source is irrelevant what matters is that it is your own body and soul, your internal radar with which it rings true.

A clear mind, and a clean body can see, hear and feel without the muddiness caused by the clouds of past conditioning or the fears of an uncertain future. A clear mind is present.

"There are no rights or wrongs, there is just what we choose to experience"

The definition of integrity is to bring all parts together, to become whole. To bring all that is within us together in harmony, to integrate into our physical body, our thinking mind and our energetic spirit, and become one unified whole.

So to integrate and to become free, meaning to be in flex and flow, choosing life from a place of self trust, honesty, and integrity, it seems we must first shed and let go of that which is our patterned habits and conditioning.

"To integrate your own wisdom into your body, mind and soul - that is your thoughts, words and actions, you must first cleanse away that which blocks this natural flow so that you can see, hear, feel and do from a place of clarity, that place of clarity is what lays behind the clouds of a conditioned mind."

With freedom and clarity you can; Listen to your bodies natural rhythms and needs. Hear and receive the thoughts of your higher mind. Trust the power and wisdom of your own soul.

It takes 21 days to break or create a habit. Here is how you can cleanse yourself, that is your consciousness, and create lasting change.

Take the following challenge of this 21 day process and find for yourself the gift of clarity, which brings freedom and choice.

1. Cleanse your body. To break the patterns of conditioning and kick the old habits, for 21 days avoid all animal products, that includes meat, fish, eggs and dairy. Avoid caffeine, sugar, alcohol and processed foods. Minimise packaged foods and aim towards 70-80% live food, fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet each day. Drink fresh water with lime or lemon juice throughout the day, and also include fresh juices daily.

2. Cleanse your mind. Create for yourself a daily affirmation, one that feels good to your mind and natural in your body. These might include - I love my body and trust in its wisdom - I express myself with clarity and clear intent - All I need is within me now. Repeat these to yourself throughout the day. Avoid the media as much as possible, as this will infuse your mind with negativity

3. Cleanse your soul. Each morning take some time to be and bring your attention to each of your energy centres. You can focus on one per day, moving from one to seven consecutively three times throughout the 21 day period. Imagine a healing or cleansing energy, clearing your energy field. The stillness will also relax your mind and is a great way to start the day with a sense of calm and focus.

4. Cleanse your environment. Clear the clutter in your home and office, and create yourself an environment that feels good, clean and healthy, ensuring that your outer life is now reflective of your clean and healthy inner life.

Float Tanks.. The what And Why: By The Float Centre!

What is Floating?

Floating has been around since 1954, when it was first developed by researchers at Washington's National Institute of Mental Health. The effects of floating have been scientifically validated all over the world. It has been researched and documented for mental health, physical health, resistance to addictive habits, accelerated learning and elite sports performance at Harvard, Stanford, Yale and other universities, as well as hospitals and sports training facilities around the world. Many famous elite athletes have used floating as an essential part of their training. The Australian Institute of Sport has been using floating since 1983. That's not to say you have to be famous to use it, there are benefits for everyone.

Why Float?

So that you can eliminate Stress, Tension & Muscle soreness in a simple effortless way. Let's say, so you can relax! Take it easy and recover. It relaxes the mind as well as the muscles.

"Floating Compensates for lack of sleep…. 2 Hours in a Float Tank can be more restful and restorative than a full night of sound sleep." 1 hour in the float tank = 4 hours of sleep.

"Floating is successfully used by athletes to improve performance significantly and to speed recovery."

These quotes come from the "book of floating" by Michael Hutchinson but more importantly are now commonly accepted without argument, just ring the Australian Institute of Sport and ask them about the benefits of floating. More importantly you do not have to be a high profile athlete to get the benefits. You can be 8 to 80 and the benefits are there for you in one form or another.

How Does it Work?

A floatation tank is a special lightweight floatarium designed to remove the effect of gravity. NASA also used float tanks to help with the development and training of astronauts. No noise, no light and no feeling of weight. The tank is housed in your own private bathroom (at the Float Centre) and you have total privacy.

Entry to the tank is through a light sliding door which you can close, leave partly or completely open.

Once inside the tank you rest upon an extremely dense solution of sterile warm water and salts - a velvety mixture just 10 inches deep, yet so tremendously buoyant, you have no choice but to float… you can't sink.

During this process your muscles relax to a degree not possible under any other circumstance and a wonderful feeling of weightlessness and relief flows through your entire body.

Throughout this process, stress, tension and fatigue are rapidly released. The benefits include feeling calm and clear-headed, physically relaxed and refreshed.
