Weight Training For The Ageing: Are you Doing All You Can?

ARE YOU DOING ALL YOU CAN TO AVOID THE FRAILTY OF OLD AGE?

Resistance training has a host of positive effects for the ageing individual. The numerous studies conducted to evaluate the effects of weight training in the ageing have shown weight training to be extremely beneficial to individuals well into their 90's.

Maximum muscle size and strength generally occurs between the ages of 20 and 30. Thereafter, there is a progressive decline in muscular size and as a result, strength. Weight training is an effective tool for preventing and recovering some of these muscular losses associated with ageing. Many determined older individuals have initiated a resistive weight training regimen later in life and were able to surpass the muscular size and strength they possessed in their youth.

Other benefits associated with weight training include:

" Increased metabolic rate
" Increased energy
" Increased flexibility
" Increased bone density
" Increased strength of connective tissue
" Better control of symptoms of Diabetes, Arthritis, Osteoporosis, back pain and even depression
" Prevents falls due to restoration of balance
" Improve posture stability
" Increased range of motion

Can't Concentrate? Blame the Sandwich!: by Bojan Schiantez, N.D!

Can't Concentrate? Blame the Sandwich! Bojan Schianetz, N.D.

If breakfast and lunch are so good for you, why do they often leave you feeling tired and mentally foggy? Even though you've avoided 'empty' foods like sugary cereals and croissants?

It could be food allergies. They are more common than you might think. They are also notoriously difficult to pick up because in many cases, you don't get a reaction for hours, even days after eating the culprit food. And when the reaction does occur, it can be far from your stomach, so it's easy to miss the connection between what you ate yesterday, and your memory lapses today.

In fact, food allergies can show up as all sorts of symptoms and signs, including:

Digestive problems - caused by damage to the gut lining or chemical imbalances due to allergic reactions. This can lead to bloating, stomach cramps and inflammation, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, autoimmune and immune deficiency diseases, and many other problems.

Respiratory problems -caused to excess mucous production due to allergy-induced inflammation. Little children are often affected in this way, as their small upper airways are easily blocked.

Middle ear infections - caused by excess mucous and inflammation due to allergies. One study found that most children with otitis showed significant improvement when milk, wheat, egg white, peanuts, and soy were eliminated from their diet.

Psychological or emotional problems - caused by allergy-related inflammation in the nervous system and nutrient deficiencies, a common effect of allergies. Food allergies have been linked psychological and behavior disorders such as autism and hyperactivity in children, anxiety, depression, inability to concentrate, mood swings, and mental 'fogginess'.

Food addictions and cravings - caused by the release of 'happy' chemicals to counteract the effects of an allergic reaction. One kind of chemical released during an allergies reaction is opioids, which make you feel good. You might then crave more of that food to get the happy high, even though the food is damaging your body at the same time. If you are addicted to a food, you're probably allergic to it.

Give Peas A Chance!:The Humble Pea Takes On The Giants and Wins!!

The humble pea has taken on the protein giants - whey and soy - and won!

Protein is essential for the building and repair of all your cells, muscle, tissue, skin and the blood. It's also essential for all body maintenance, digestion, movement, immune function, energy production and detoxification (amongst many other functions)

What's so great about 'PhytoProtein Pea Protein Isolate'?

1) The highest protein yield
For the first time you have a complete protein available from a single legume, which has the plant world's highest content of essential amino acids. As a bio-available protein, 'PhytoProtein' beats Soy, Carob and Whey Protein Concentrate in both protein content (at 88%) and digestibility (at 98%).

2) The lowest Carbohydrate level
It only has a 0.1% carbohydrate level. Even better for dieters, it also has a high satiety level (which gives you that full, satisfied, satiated feeling after a meal). It's also the only protein powder that's alkaline, allowing for greater detoxification and for athletes, delaying the impact of lactic acid build up in muscle contraction which allows a longer period of exertion.

3) Allergy free!
'PhytoProtein' is also free of all allergens such as gluten, soy, lactose, dairy. The original has no colourings, flavourings or sweeteners and has a mild, bland flavour.

Phyto Protein is the perfect protein source not only for vegans and vegetarians, but anybody looking to improve the quality of protein in their diets.

For anyone after a fantastic taste though, we now have 'PhytoProtein' in a USDA Certified Organic Creamy Vanilla flavour. A perfect addition for smoothies and a great companion to its sister product 'Vital Greens'. The two combined make a perfect 'liquid lunch' (or breakfast!)

'PHYTOPROTEIN' NOW CERTIFIED BY KOSHER AUSTRALIA
After an inspection of our packing facilities in Sydney, Kosher Australia has added it's local Kosher certification to 'PhytoProtein'. This is also recognised by most Muslims as Halal. We will have formal Halal certification within the next few months.

NEW USDA CERTIFIED ORGANIC CREAMY VANILLA FLAVOUR FOR 'PHYTOPROTEIN' - puts the yum into protein powder! This new certified Organic flavour has really lifted the taste of 'PhytoProtein' further enhancing the texture and makes truly delicious, creamy smoothies.

NLP What is it? How can it Help Me?: by Sue Lester B.A Dip Teach. Master Practitioner NLP& Hypnosis!

Neuro Linguistic Programming is a set of specific techniques which align the conscious and unconscious mind and body. NLP will enable you to resolve health, fertility, relationship, personal, financial or career issues, so you can move forward and create the life you want. You learn to control how you perceive and therefore react to your world. You can quickly and easily un-learn the unhelpful lessons from the past, and clear any backlog of negative emotions such as anger, fear and guilt.

NLP was developed in the 1960's - 1970's by computer scientist Richard Bandler and linguist John Grinder from their studies of highly successful therapists, Virginia Satir (Family therapist), Fritz Perls (Gestalt therapist) and Milton Erickson (the Father of modern Hypnotherapy). These three therapists were transforming their clients' ways of thinking, feeling and behaving in seemingly miraculous ways.

Bandler and Grinder aimed to discover exactly what occurred in the minds and bodies of clients at the moment change occurred. The resulting techniques of NLP enable people to effectively gain control of their minds and therefore their behavioural results in a matter of hours rather than years.

How can it help me? What problems can be treated?

Dis-ease of the mind can cause disease of the body, so a wide variety of health issues can be worked on as part of a holistic mind-body-spirit approach. Releasing backlogs of negative emotions such as anger, sadness, fear and guilt is part of this. Perfect for clearing Road Rage, and that inexplicable sense of emotional heaviness. Most clients report feeling 'lighter' and say people notice the difference in their face and physiology. Your attitudes to exercise and food groups can be adjusted so healthy lifestyle choices become automatic!

NLP is fast and effective for Non-smoker Conversion, eliminating Phobias and most importantly, changing negative and self-limiting habits, attitudes and beliefs.

Using NLP could help women through, or perhaps even avoid, the anguish of possible infertility. Most importantly, the tools and techniques of NLP can help women free themselves to enjoy their lives, whether that includes actually giving birth, or finding other ways to be creative and nurturing in their lives.

During pregnancy when fears and unresolved issues arise, NLP is invaluable for clearing your way to a positive birthing experience. Because trauma or negative emotions do not need to be re-lived to be released forever, an NLP session is generally a calming and empowering experience. Issues around not bonding with your unborn child, fears about the birth and trauma from previous birthing experiences, low self-esteem or confidence or a general sense of being overwhelmed can all be resolved quickly. Re-aligning Values and recognizing preferred strategies for giving and receiving love can ease marital conflict and re-establish loving relationships.

NLP can be used with children, especially for teenagers. Some processes don't even require them to disclose the actual problem! For younger children, particularly in the Imprint Period of 0-7 years, the most powerful results come when the practitioner works with the parents, helping them make the changes they want to see.

Quote of the week!

Don't Quit When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all uphill, When funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about, When he might have won if he'd stuck it out. Don't give up, though the pace seems slow - You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than It seems to a faint and faltering man; Often the struggler has given up When he might have captured the victor's cup, And he learned too late, when the night slipped down, How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out - The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are - It may be near when it seems afar; So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit - It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit.
