Forever Active: An Innovative Programme for Kids and Baby Boomers !

The Green Apple Wellness Centre is located in Bald Hills, a northside suburb of Brisbane, Qld. It was established in 1978 as a gym with a difference, with emphasis on Wellness rather than "body beautiful"!

The Green Apple offers prescriptive exercise, dietary help and natural therapies in a non-threatening, friendly environment where people don't need to be young, fit or slim to start and don't need designer clothes.

Forever Active™ is one of the Wellness programmes developed to address very specific parts of the body - muscle and bone. Developing and maintaining strength is becoming increasingly important in a world of mechanization, technology and people living for longer than ever before.

Forever Active™ is supervised, specific, fun and only takes 30 minutes to complete, twice a week.

Forever Active™ for Juniors aged 6 - 14 is attractive to children who don't want to play sport or "games" but still like to be included in a group - to belong. Forever Active™ can turn a child who dislikes physical activity into a young person who feels stronger and more empowered, giving a boost to their self-confidence.

Forever Active™ for Babyboomers and Seniors helps participants feel more youthful and able to tackle daily life, travel, grandchildren and any challenges with more gusto and enthusiasm. Knee pain, back pain and shoulder dysfunction diminish as the body becomes stronger.

The Queensland government supported the initiative of Forever Active™. The programme was officially launched by the Parliamentary Secretary for the Minister of Health, in October 2005.

Faye Lobbin’s Story.

Last year I joined the Green Apple Wellness Centre for the first time, to do Steady Steps, I found it did me good teaching me how to get out of the chair and bed properly also giving me strength in my legs and better balance. I have since joined the Forever Active™ Group doing weights, just getting every part of the body moving, plus I have done Splashing Good Time in the pool, it is good exercising in the water. By going to the Centre I have been motivated to exercise and I can see its doing me a lot of good. Our instructor Cherryle has been very good to me.. Faye has received her Award Prizes for completing several steps with the programme.

Basil Parker’s Story.

Having never been to a gym in my life before I did not know what to expect when I first started in a class of Forever Active™ but having retired and putting on weight at the age of 64 I thought I would give it a go. I must say I had a lot of fun at these classes with plenty of laughter as well as exercise and would look forward to going twice a week. I had a operation on my knee about three years ago which was not a complete success but found Forever Active™ helped to strengthen my knee as well and I can now walk much better and can now look to my future as being more active and in better health than it would have been if I had not done Forever Active™. Now that I know the full benefit of exercise though Forever Active™ I have now become a full member of Green Apple Wellness Centre .

Thanks to you all ! Regards Anne

Natural Animal Care: Treating the Symptoms Not Just Disease!

Natural Animal Care is a Brisbane based business that promotes and advocates natural therapies and products for animals. We use Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Nutrition, Reiki and Massage to assist all animals including dogs, cats, small animals, and horses.

At Natural Animal Care we recognise the importance of treating symptoms, not just disease. When presented with a dog with dermatitis, for example we establish during consultation that his skin is itchy, swollen, and inflamed. Treatment may involve natural anti-inflammatories, fish oils, herbal tonics and creams, detoxification and natural foods to help remove any preservatives, by-products and other additives from the diet. These natural treatments help to stimulate the body's own healing ability. We ease the inflammation with supplements the body recognises; we eliminate chemicals from the body, and apply topical treatments to the skin, allowing the body to slowly and effectively heal the dermatitis.

A conventional veterinary may diagnosis the dermatitis, and prescribe antibiotics and cortisone. This helps in the short term, but often the problem reoccurs. This is because drugs suppress the underlying cause of the condition. For example, a dog with dermatitis (stage 1) is given a course of drugs; he starts vomiting as a side-effect (stage 2) and is given anti-nausea medication. The skin improves and the vomiting stops and all is well. A month later the dog develops an ear infection and is lethargic (stage 3). The dog is then given conventional ear drops... and so it continues. With each new prescription the problem is suppressed deeper and deeper within the animal until eventually a far more serious problem, such as liver disease or cancer presents.

There are of course cases that require assistance from conventional drugs, and we like to work alongside veterinarians as much as possible but often natural alternatives can be introduced to promote natural healing.

Detox Diets too Hard? try a Natural Alternative: With Wise Feet Foot Patches!

People who have been exposed to chemicals or taken a lot of drugs seem to benefit greatly from using foot patches, according to Wisdom for Living Centre founder Barbara Elkins. The foot patches are Traditional Chinese Medicine and resemble big teabags. They are applied to the feet at night, when the body naturally detoxes itself. They act like a poultice. They warm up and open up the pores of the skin to draw out and absorb wastes via the skin under osmotic pressure.

The patches are usually removed in the morning.
Overnight, they change from a pale sandy coloured powder to a dark, wet and sticky 'goo' which is on the feet and in the patches.
The patches can also be applied to various parts of the body, but are always applied to the acupuncture points on the feet. They are particularly effective on insect or spider bites. You can use them at your own pace in the privacy of your own home.

"Many people have had wonderful, if not spectacular results," Miss Elkins said. "Typically people who have a lot of body pain (from arthritis, fibromyalgia, old injuries, swollen legs, hot or cold feet, to gout and chronic fatigue) find the patches relieve their pain quite dramatically."

The patches are easy to use and non-invasive.
"Many people are finding they can decrease or even stop some of the medications they are taking (this seems to be particularly true of arthritis sufferers)," Miss Elkins said. "People who have been exposed to a lot of chemicals or have taken a lot of drugs in their lives seem to benefit greatly from using these foot patches. Our world is now full of chemicals that were not around when we first evolved and they are affecting our health."

"Naturopaths are even using them on children with autism and ADHD with great results". "Typically my customers ring up to ask me about them and they just try one pair to start. After using them for one night they are usually on the phone the next day to order a box. Then they give them to their family and friends".

by John Ikerd

It is humbling to see the whole scale awakening people, especially in the west, are going through. Who'd have thought the wider community would respond to "An inconvenient Truth" so passionately. Overnight eco-media has exploded. Everyone wants to know how to be more green. But when it comes to food, we're still somewhat asleep, preferring the dozy dream of convenience and thrifty food choices to the stark reality of what our daily decisions create for our descendants. If you still shop for food at a supermarket you need to read this. MORE....
