Lifting The lid on Dry Body Brushing:with Bodecare Wellness & Spa Products!

Ever wanted to know how to really Dry Body Brush?

So many times we are told you just do a few strokes here and there and that's it. However, really understanding the process and steps of Dry Body Brushing will make it easier to get the results and gain the health benefits, which Day Spa's and Natural therapists have been preaching about for years.

Dry skin brushing has long been known to stimulate the body's lymphatic system for improved health and is an excellent form of exfoliating for clear skin. Jodie Smith, of Bodecare (pronounced 'Body-care') states dry skin brushing works by exciting the body's physiological activities, such as lymph and blood circulation, restores moist, supple skin for youthfulness and strengthens the flow of vital chi.

General Rules of Dry Skin Brushing

1. Always use a natural bristle skin brush.
2. Perform on Dry Skin only.
3. Generally stroke upward in one movement.
4. Light strokes repeated 7 times.
5. Adjust pressure to your comfort levels.
6. Best to follow brushing with some form of hydrotherapy i.e. shower or bath
7. Don't brush more than you need to. Over doing it does not mean better results.

Steps of Dry Body Brushing

1. Start at soles of feet, stroking body brush from toes to heel, follow each brush stroke with a soothing sweep of the other hand.
2. Continue on top of foot from toes to ankles and then up the leg, ensuring to cover entire leg.
3. Move to buttocks, starting at top of buttock, brush down to the gluteal fold (where buttock joins the leg) and sweep back again to top.
4. Then from base of buttock sweep upward to outside of hip and work up the back and over the shoulder.
5. Brush abdomen, hands, arms and chest, ensuring to avoid breasts and genitalia area.

A slight reddening of the skin (erythema) is normal, it is the blood circulation responding to the skin brushing.

Before Dry Body Brushing please take note of the following precautions:

1. Never Skin Brush over active inflammation e.g. open wounds, inflamed sores, varicose veins.
2. Never Skin Brush during an active cancer state or over enlarged lymph nodes.
3. Do not brush on sunburnt skin.
4. Avoid breasts & genitalia area.
5. If pregnant seek doctors advise first before skin brushing.
6. Never brush in an active cancer state.

Hygiene is important with dry skin brushing, as so much dead skin cells sloughs off and works it's way into the brush bristles. Therefore, if brushing daily, clean brush every 3-4 days and if brushing approximately three days a week, clean the brush once a week. To clean your dry skin brush, wash in hot soapy water and leave in the sun to dry. For an even greater clean wash bristles in an antibacterial soap in hot water and soak in disinfectant for 5 minutes, rinse and leave in the sun to dry. (Please note: these are hygiene steps for your personal body brush, which you use at home)

Of course Dry Skin Brushing can be a lot more detailed and can last for up to 30 minutes, more reference points are noted on the bodecare website.

According to Jodie, the energizing benefits of skin brushing can be felt days after starting the process and could also tighten the skin and reduce cellulite in many cases, particularly if complemented by a cardio routine and a healthy diet. Jodie also advises clients on the proper techniques of brushing.

"Clients often ask me how to get the best results from body brushing. I tell them that a routine of dry brushing before showering, starting with the lower body first and brushing in an upward motion towards the heart will yield the best benefits, promote circulation and improve energy levels," she said.

Preconception Care, What Every Prospective Parent Should Know: with Jenny Mitchell!

The aims of preconception care are to improve the health of prospective parents. Improving your health prior to conception can improve the health of your baby and reduce the risk of pregnancy complications. Preconception health has several components. The first step is to visit your GP for a health check. In particular, women planning to conceive should have the following blood tests: Blood group, rubella immunity and iron studies. In addition, both partners should be screened for STIs (sexually transmitted infections). Some STIs can reduce fertility and others can be passed onto your baby. Don't assume that you do not have an STI if you have no symptoms, as some STIs have no obvious symptoms.

Most women would have heard of folic acid or folate. Folate is a B group vitamin which has been shown in scientific studies to reduce the risk of neural tube defects such as Spina bifida. Optimal preconception care involves more than just taking folic acid. Most health professionals now recommend taking a comprehensive multivitamin with a minimum of 500mcg of folate, before conception and during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

As the number of couples experiencing difficulty conceiving increases, more research is being dedicated to the influence of nutritional and lifestyle factors. Did you know that your body weight and the types of foods you consume can affect your fertility? This is true for both men and women. If you are trying to conceive, you could benefit from a consultation with a Naturopath who is also qualified in Natural Fertility Management practitioner. Natural Fertility Management practitioners can assist you in identifying the most fertile time in your cycle, and help you achieve optimal health. Give your baby the best s
tart in life by starting preconception care today.

Colour Therapy Has Been Used in Healing Since the Dawn of Time: with Bio Beauty Products!

Colour Therapy (Chromatherapy) has been used in healing since the dawn of time. More and more people are understanding the connection between our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual selves - that the mind, body and soul are intertwining matrixes, which affect all levels of our being.

Sunlight consists of the entire electro-magnetic spectrum that we depend on to exist on this planet. Using modern technology it is now possible to utilize the entire visible spectrum of colours from sunlight in the form of low level polarized light which affects the body on both a physical and emotive level.

Your skin and other body tissues have the ability to absorb light and use it as a source of energy to stimulate cellular regeneration .By using the visible rays (without UV rays) known as chromatherapy, the light and colour can irradiate the skin in a non invasive way to produce startling effects. Each cell of the body receives the specific wavelengths it needs to achieve optimal health of skin and body.

Light flows through the eyes and triggers photo-neurons and hormone production, which influences our complex biochemical system. This in turn affects the entire body including many chronic ailments caused by emotional, metabolic or endocrine malfunctions. By using chromatherapy we can influence our energy fields to positively affect the immune system, relax the body, increase motivation and improve physical appearance such as photo ageing , acne, scarring, collagen, elastin and HA production, reduction in fine lines etc

Adding Oxygen and Essences to the therapy provides a holistic solution for beauty and well being. This synergy of therapies - light; colour; oxygen and essences- creates very potent and effective treatment regimes. The colour light units are available from a low inclusive cost of $1400

Laughter is the best medicine!

"Darling," said the swooning man to his new bride. "Now that we are married, do you think you will be able to live on my small income?" "Of course, dearest, no trouble," she said. "But what will you live on?"

Quote of the week!

What is success? I think it is a mixture of having a flair for the thing that you are doing, knowing that it is not enough, that you have got to have hard work and a certain sense of purpose." -- Margaret Thatcher, British Prime Minister
