These were all thing I was facing at different times from 2000 to 2002. The prospect of not being able to improve my running, because I was suffering from impact niggles, and then also losing conditioning because of having to take weeks off, to allow the body to heal. It didn’t help my fitness.

What I found changed everything. I am now doing a running style exercise without the impact. It is an exercise that is hard on the muscles, but easy on the bones and joints. It’s like lunge walking but way more enjoyable.

I found what’s called a Kickbike, it’s an adult version of the kids scooter, but a lot safer for adults to use. It certainly works the muscles, in fact, it uses more muscles than running and cycling put together, but is very easy on the body. It targets the core muscles and gets the heart rate up, but without the impact.

I found that I could cut back my running and do just conditioning runs, and I used the Kickbike for my training. All my times improved, and I started to enjoy running again. I stopped getting impact injuries, and my overall fitness improved. At 39 I was beating my 20 year old PB's.
